What we will do with the information you have agreed we can collect and share

This notice is to make sure you know what we intend to do with your information and who it will be shared with.

Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council and its partners are working together to improve and focus the services we provide for you. To do this well we may have the need to share information between each of the organisations.

The information shared will help us

  • To stop obtaining the same information from you time after time;

  • Understand better your specific needs.

We will use the information you have given us and any additional information already held as follows:-

  1. Information about you will be shared with other people involved in working with you and your dependants, such as social workers, children's centres and health visitor services. This is not an exhaustive list, but further details can be obtained from the Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council website.
  2. Information may also be shared with a number of partner organisations outside of Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council; these include Greater Manchester Police, Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and New Charter Housing Trust Group.   3. Any information that is shared between organisations will be the minimum that is necessary to provide the required support services for you and/or your dependants.
  4. It is understood that the information we will be handling is sensitive and it is assured that all organisations involved will comply with their Data Protection Act and Common Law Duty of Confidentiality responsibilities.
  5. Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council will be the central host of the gathered information.
  6. All information held will only be held as long as necessary and will be held in compliance with the law and the organisations Retention and Disposal Policies. Copies of the policies are available upon request.

How we protect your information

Your personal information is safeguarded by the Data Protection Act 1998

The sensitivity of your information is well understood within and ongoing training is provided to ensure awareness. We will keep all paper and electronic records securely to prevent unauthorised access in line with current legislation. Only those needed to have access to your information to provide services will be allowed access.

Managing the Data

We need to be able to move electronic information between the separate systems that provide information to provide services to you. Data is also extracted and processed to support the operation of the services and monitoring the delivery and management of the services. Occasionally, tests will need to be made on the data to check that it has been transferred correctly. This will only be done under carefully controlled conditions.

Where information may be shared and who with

We will only ever share your information if it is in the best interests for you or your child. We will not disclose any information other than as advised without your express permission, unless there are exceptional circumstances such as when there is serious risk of harm to yourself or others or where the law requires it.

We have a duty to:

  • keep sufficient information to provide services and fulfil our legal responsibilities.

  • Keep your records secure and accurate.

  • Only keep your information as long as it is required.

Things you can do to help us

  • Help us to make sure that we identified you correctly by letting us know when you change your address or name.

  • Tell us if any of your information we hold is incorrect.

  • Permit us to share as much information about you as we need to.
